![]() For example, some enemies have different death animations, and the Game Over sequence uses a fade-through-white transition instead of a screen-melt transition. Some of the sound and graphical effects were also down-sampled. Rather than maintaining the Saturn's increased resolution, the game was stretched to fit the screen, causing some sprites and graphics to be distorted. There is now slowdown in areas where none had existed in the original version, and some of the rooms were split in two or missing entirely. The load times are more frequent and much longer. While it sounds like the superior game on paper (especially considering the Saturn's general history with 2D games), this port is bogged with performance issues. It is also the second and final Castlevania game to be released for a Sega platform, as Sega left the console business and became a multi-platform third party developer and publisher in 2001 following the discontinuation of the Sega Dreamcast. ![]() The story, with the exception of a boss battle with Maria in order for Alucard to gain the Holy Glasses, is the same as the original game's. It is also possible to play as Richter Belmont or Maria Renard from the beginning of the game without having to do extra efforts to unlock them. In addition to the entire original Symphony of the Night, it included new stages, music, enemies and items that were absent in the Sony versions, plus a playable version of Maria Renard. This edition was more of an update rather than a port of the game. I hope you enjoy it I think my supply of stuff I can "run" is pretty much exhausted by now.The Sega Saturn version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was only released in Japan and, like the Japanese name of the PlayStation version, was called Akumajō Dracula X: Nocturne in the Moonlight. I know I made a couple of big messups, like Death's room, but as it seems to go with all my other runs, I am going to make mistakes and just have to hope that I play the rest of the run decent enough and see what my finishing time is. The run is not as fast as the 7:14 for the PS1 version of the game, but due to what seems to be around one minute of extra load times and the slower play/fps of the Saturn version of the game anyway, I think this is a somewhat comparable run to the PS1 version. The time I got from VirtualDub seems to be around 8:42 from when I can start moving Richter up until where Shaft dies. That really annoying spiked ball at the Royal Chapel hurts Richter for almost 60% of his health bar, while with normal Richter it seems to kill him outright or do around 85% or more damage. I think this version of Richter has more defense. This only works on the Saturn version of the game. To choose the alternate outfit, all you have to do is hold up on the d-pad and press the 'C' button while the cursor is over Richter. A few people wanted to see what he looked like, which I had not seen myself either, so I made some little videos that turned into a day and a half of playing to get a run with alternate outfit Richter. At the Gaming-Age forum, a poster made a topic about favorite Castlevania characters, and I mentioned hearing about an alternate outfit Richter (I believe it is the artwork version and/or when he is a bad guy in the game regularly). This run, just like with the Maria run I did earlier, came out of my simply wanting to show the character initially from a request. Hello again! Thanks to DJGrenola for synching the audio! Single-segment speed run of the Sega Saturn version of Castlevania: Nocturne in the Moonlight (Symphony of the Night in English) as Richter, completed on 16 July 2006.
